Sports Psychology

“Sport psychology is a discipline that focuses on enhancing performance using psychological knowledge and mental skills”

Areas commonly addressed in sport psychology include optimal performance, well-being of athletes, and developmental and social aspects of sports participation. Sport psychology also focuses on injury management and the associated psychological challenges.

Sport psychology utilises the following mental skills:

–          mindfulness

–          goal setting

–          imagery

–          emotional readiness

–          pre performance routine

–          post performance assessment skills

The focus of my practice is to create an objective, trusting, and non-judgmental environment for my clients. My aim is to enable my clients to speak freely about their challenges and to reflect upon their behaviour patterns. Through this process, with the collaboration of my clients, we individualise mental and behavioural strategies for enhancing desirable and consistent performance.

I believe that the same principle for physical training should be applied to mental training; in order to improve and maintain performance, consistent training and guidance are essential.
